The Hero (2017) 7:30pm to 9pm Tampa Theatre The story of an aging Western actor with a smoky baritone, a bumpy personal life, and the peaks of his career in his rear-view mirror. At the age of 71, he sets about trying to set right what remains of his time on Earth: repairing his relationship with his estranged daughter, starting an exciting new one with a much younger woman, and trying to land just one more big part. Starring Sam Elliott, Krysten Ritter, and Laura Prepon. The Hero (2017)
El Topo (1970) 10:30pm to Midnight Tampa Theatre This horrifically challenging movie is a violent, distorted take on Westerns: a man in black rides a horse through the desert, six-gun at his side. Symbol-rich, filled with riddles, visually arresting and composed like a series of interlocking dreams, El Topo isn’t a typical movie so much as a kind of surrealist canvas brought to bleeding, squirming, sometimes detestable life. Viewer discretion is highly advised. El Topo (1970)
