Son of Real Florida: Stories From My Life with Jeff Klinkenberg

Tampa Bay History Center
Enjoy a lunchtime talk with renowned author and journalist Jeff Klinkenberg. Klinkenberg will discuss his recently-published memoir Son of Real Florida: Stories From My Life. Born in 1949, Klinkenberg grew up in Miami and began exploring the Florida Keys and the Everglades as a small boy. He started working at The Miami News when he was 16 and became a journalism graduate of the University of Florida. He’s in the UF Journalism College’s Hall of Fame and he spent four decades with the Tampa Bay Times before retiring in 2014. Son of Real Florida

Civil War Roundtable
Begins 9am
Tampa Bay History Center
This informative and informal gathering will examine both historical and contemporary topics related to the “War Between the States,” with guest speaker Dr. Richard Banz, executive director of the Southern Museum and Kennesaw Museum Foundation. Learn about a group of undercover Union raiders who traveled past Confederate lines in 1862 to steal a locomotive named “The General.” This half-day symposium is non-political and non-partisan, as well as free and open to the public.
