Open Rehearsal – The Pearl Fishers Begins 6:30pm Straz Center for the Performing Arts Opera aficionados and neophytes alike always enjoy a behind-the-scenes peek into a rehearsal with Managing Director and Chorus Master Robin Stamper, observing the director and artists working on scenes for the upcoming opera production. BBCB Luncheon Begins 1pm Tampa Convention Center In 2006, Hillsborough Community College met the goal of reflecting the county’s population distribution in its student enrollment. However, the institution still faced the challenge of a lack of student success in retention and graduation for all students and in particular African American and Latino males. The goals of this summit are to provide information about successful strategies, explore mentoring programs that enable the success of young men, and to provide the latest research of the methods higher education institutions can employ to increase access, persistence, and retention and graduation rates. Blake Shelton: Friends and Heroes Tour Begins 7pm Amalie Arena From his team members on The Voice to veteran country artists, Blake Shelton has a history of demonstrating his support for the people he believes in. When he realized that fans across the country needed to hear music from his friends and heroes, he decided to bring them all out on the road. Very special guest Lauren Alaina joins Shelton for the show, along with special appearances by country icons the Bellamy Brothers, John Anderson, and Trace Adkins. Gasparilla Music Festival Begins 11am Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park This festival celebrates the best of Tampa Bay’s diverse music scene, highlighting local emerging acts and nationally recognized headliners. The 6th annual festival will host over 40 fun and eclectic acts with two full days of music across four stages. The lineup also features many of Tampa’s best eateries including The Refinery, Malio’s Steakhouse, Ella’s Folk Art Cafe and more. Sing-Along Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) 7:30pm to 9:45pm Tampa Theatre Based on the true story of world-famous rock band Queen’s journey from their humble beginnings to their now-legendary 1985 performance at the Live Aid concert in Wembley Stadium, Bohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury. The film will be presented in a form you may not have experienced yet: as a sing-along!
