SPECIAL SERVICES DISTRICT #41
POTENTIAL DISTRICT EXPANSION

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS COMMUNITY MEETING?
All property and business owners, residents, and stakeholders located within:

  • the Special Services District #41 (the “SSD”), which is shown in blue on the map below; and
  • the areas surrounding the SSD that are shown in yellow on the map below (the “Potential Expansion Area”).

WHEN AND WHERE IS THIS COMMUNITY MEETING?

  • January 31 at 7:30 a.m. at The Hall On Franklin, 1701 N Franklin St., Tampa FL 33602
  • February 8 at 5:30 p.m. at 1617 W Franklin St., Tampa FL 33602

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS COMMUNITY MEETING?
The SSD was created in 1994 to provide enhanced safety, maintenance, business development, beautification, planning and urban design, and other management services (the “Special Services”) in Tampa’s downtown. The SSD was initiated by property owners and is funded by a special assessment on properties located within the SSD. Through a contract with the City of Tampa, the Tampa Downtown Partnership provides the Special Services in the SSD. Recently, property owners in the Potential Expansion Area have requested the provision of Special Services in the Potential Expansion Area. In response to these requests and the growth of Tampa’s downtown and adjacent neighborhoods, the City of Tampa is considering expanding the SSD.

HOW IS THE SSD FUNDED, AND HOW WILL AN EXPANDED SSD BE FUNDED?
If expanded, the SSD will continue to be funded in the same manner as the SSD has been historically funded. The assessment formula for funding the SSD is based on relative property values. In 1996, property owners agreed to set the SSD rate to 1.1 mill or $1.10 per $1,000.00 of assessed property value. The Special Services District’s Advisory Committee has agreed that the special assessment for the fiscal year 2018 will remain at the current rate of 1.1 mil for the SSD, whether or not it is expanded.
